At HDigital backups have always been taken seriously. Now with ransomware on the horizon in the server space it's time to take things even more seriously. This means not only offsite but detached backups whose sources can't be reached remotely - at least not as easily.

To visualize, for most servers it's common to connect to an external service like Amazon S3 with credentials. This does add one extra level of security, but if you were developing the ransomware, and were smart about it, you'd look to see these connections and compromise the backup source as well. This connection looks like "Server -> Remote Backup (S3)". While this strategy is the most efficient, it's time to add another layer where the remote backup source attaches to the server and makes the backup that way thus further insuring the integrity and longevity of data.

During this process, backup schedules have been changed. ALL plan levels will get this feature outlined above.
